Top Spending Teams Expected to Pursue Former Washington Nationals Superstar

Washington Nationals You have the money to spend this offseason on unregistered contracts.

That’s why fans are starting to dream of a storybook reunion with their past superstar Juan Soto, who is scheduled to hit free agency this winter and is expected to sign one of the biggest contracts in Major League Baseball history.

It goes without saying that owner Mark Lerner will have to open his checkbook if he wants to get this job done. something that might come based on some tips from general manager Mike Rizzo.

The Nationals aren’t the only ones currently eyeing action for the phenomenon.

Accordingly USA TODAY’s Bob NightengaleMany of the top-spending teams in MLB are preparing to offer him the big deal needed to land him.

“The Yankees have made no secret of their desire for him to return. The crosstown Mets, who own baseball’s richest owner Steve Cohen, may be calling him. The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to make a strong pursuit of him to team up with Boras’ client Bryce Harper. “The Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants, who were left at the altar in the winter Ohtani bidding war, will now turn their attention to Soto,” he reports.

All five of these teams are in the top 10 in 2024 payroll and are currently only Toronto Blue Jays They are off that target in terms of projected salary for next season.

Washington ranked 24th in spending this year and will rank 28th in 2025, based on projected payroll.

Their willingness to spend will either allow them to participate in the Soto sweepstakes or limit them from competing with those teams to get something done.

It has been suggested that it was Rizzo’s decision to ask Lerner for money to upgrade their key position group, and given that their outfield is James Wood and Dylan Crews at corners, they don’t necessarily need Soto.

Of course, every club would like to have the 26-year-old player in their team, and although they have young, rising stars in their squad, the National Team should be no exception.

With multiple top-spending teams trying to land the former Washington superstar, this will be a great test to see how willing he is to move toward the end of the rebuild or whether he wants to continue on his current path.
