Chelsea-Newcastle predictions

Both Chelsea and Newcastle entered this season having had contrasting summers in terms of player turnover, but had the same common goal: a top-four finish.

While both have made a solid enough start to the season, a look at form suggests the two sides meeting at Stamford Bridge are more likely than the other to make a big step towards achieving that goal.

Chelsea held their own against league leaders Liverpool last weekend, losing narrowly 2-1 at Anfield and returning to fashion, albeit with heavy rotation, by beating Panathinaikos 4-1 in the Conference League in Athens.

The victory means the Blues have won six of their last eight games in a run that has included just one defeat and comfortable wins against Brighton and West Ham.

Chelsea’s only defeat in their last 22 league games came against Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, the first three of last season, and the Blues have won 13 of the other 19 games in that series.

This is bad news for Newcastle, who have struggled to stay in form of late, on top of an abysmal record at Stamford Bridge where they have won just once in 29 Premier League visits.

The Magpies’ only win in five matches came against League Two Wimbledon in the League Cup, and they drew 0-0 with Everton in their last away match.

Eddie Howe needs to find a winner somewhere, but Newcastle’s record at Stamford Bridge – they have lost 21 times in 29 Premier League visits – still suggests a win is unlikely to emerge from this clash, especially with key players such as Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson wounded.

Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon are a dangerous duo and the Magpies may have enough money to find the goal in west London, just as they have in their last four encounters with the Blues.

Despite making impressive progress under new manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea still have work to do defensively; as both teams have scored in each of their last five Premier League matches and in five of their last seven matches.

But unlike rival player Howe, Maresca has a full squad for the first time in his Chelsea career, with Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana returning from suspension.

With Reece James back, Cole Palmer fit and Nicolas Jackson under constant threat, a full-strength Chelsea is likely too strong for Newcastle, whose miserable record at Stamford Bridge looks set to continue even if they manage to find the best solution will be. open.

Key statistics

Chelsea-Newcastle B.meat generator predictions

Chelsea wins
The Blues’ only home loss in 16 games was against Manchester City and they should have done more for Newcastle, who could only draw with Everton in their last away game.

Moises Caicedo will be shown a card
The Ecuadorian player has received only two yellow cards in the Premier League this season despite committing 15 fouls, but this time he may find himself in trouble as he needs to keep track of Bruno Guimaraes, the player with the most fouls in the league.

Dan Burn will be shown a card
The Newcastle defender has already picked up four yellow cards in the Premier League this season and could pick up a fifth as he lacks the pace to deal with Nicolas Jackson.
