SmallRig just announced the SmallRig RC 220 Pro series COB light. Based on its immense popularity SmallRig RC 220updated model improves performance, versatility and style; Not to mention it’s 24% smaller!

SmallRig is a leading manufacturer of video camera peripherals including: camera towersbatteries and tripods. It’s been developing incredibly versatile video COB lighting options lately, and the SmallRig RC 220 Pro series looks like it’s gone one step further in this regard.

COB lighting stands for Chip On Board, which describes how LED lights are stacked to provide a light source. This new LED lighting design has enabled continuous LED lights to be smaller and therefore more versatile. Lighting a movie set no longer requires a truckload of lighting; instead, it can be illuminated by several smaller COB lights, some as small as cell phones, revolutionizing independent filmmaking and content creation.

SmallRig already has an impressive range of COB lights, but the newly developed modular body design for the RC 220 Pro series supports multiple power options via a V-mount quick release mechanism. This can be used with direct power adapter, direct v-mount battery connection or NP-F970 rechargeable battery.

Improvements in light quality and performance have also been made by introducing three customized optical lenses and a new light source. Newly designed COB chip provides even and bright illumination while keeping the light body small, optical lens for light distribution and accurate color, and plano-convex lens for precise focusing.

The new SmallRig RC 220 Pro series comes in two-tone or daylight options, called RC 220B Pro and RC 220D Pro respectively. The maximum light intensity for bi-colour is 9180 Lux, while the Daylight output is 10500 Lux.

SmallRig says the light offers more options with four-way light control to suit ‘every scenario’. On-body control through a streamlined user interface allows for quick and precise adjustments, SmallGoGo App wireless control, control panel dimming compatibility, and DMX control to sync with other lights in the setup.

Other noteworthy features of the Pro series lights include a quiet cooling system, built-in shock absorption, adjustable handle, long power cord, portable storage and Bowen mount compatibility.

SmallRig RC 220 Pro Series COB LED Video Light currently available For $329.99 / £335.90 / AU$547.90. Looking at the specifications, it definitely improves on its predecessor in both form factor and performance, and could become the go-to lighting kit for content creators and independent filmmakers.
