“An Artful Life” will premiere on Thursday night

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited Newsletter/KY3) – Ozarks Public Television‘s (OPT)’s newest locally produced historical documentary, “Rose O’Neill: An Artful Life,” will premiere on November 7 at 8 p.m.

OPT’s feature film chronicles seven decades of O’Neill’s fascinating life, from her early success as the highest-paid female illustrator of the early 20th century to her later works in fine art, sculpture, fiction and poetry. is investigating. Best known as the creator of the Kewpie doll, the best-known character until Mickey Mouse, O’Neill rose to the top of a male-dominated field by becoming the first person to establish a business empire through her work. Despite her commercial success, O’Neill could not vote in public elections because she was a woman; This led to her work to support the suffragette movement by drawing posters and cartoons and marching in protest parades, helping women gain the right to vote in 1920.

“As an artist, writer, and suffragist, O’Neill’s story offers an important portrait of a modern woman in a changing world,” said Nico Burasco, the documentary’s producer.

“From his beginnings as a child prodigy to New York high society, international fame and wealth, O’Neill’s life is one of resilience, creativity and groundbreaking achievement.”

His story is also an Ozark story; his beloved home, Bonniebrook, has served as a refuge and inspiration for much of his work. “This historic home is a testament to his deep connection to the area and his enduring legacy.”

Rose O’Neill was an extraordinary person, according to OPT Executive Director Rachel Knight. He was a cartoonist, fine artist, writer, and even the sculptor of the prototype for his beloved Kewpie dolls. She was also a passionate supporter of women’s suffrage and a generous supporter of other artists.

“His talent, passion and generosity created a legacy that is still alive 150 years after his birth. “We are proud to present his extraordinary story to our audience.”

“Rose O’Neill: An Artful Life,” sponsored by Great Southern Bank and Jan and Gary Baumgartner, will premiere on OPT’s main channel on November 7 at 8 pm and will rebroadcast on November 11 at 8 pm.
