Baltimore Orioles ‘Casting a Wide Net’ to Land Starting Pitchers in MLB Free Agency

We may experience an aggressive end of the season Baltimore Orioles.

The league leaders are currently in San Antonio, Texas for the GM Meeting. Teams are preparing to make some moves this offseason after free agency officially opened last Monday.

According to the Athletic, Orioles general manager Mike Elias has made it clear that they will aggressively add a front-line starter to their rotation this winter. The report stated that Baltimore’s front office will ‘cast a wide net’ as they try to add a top starting pitcher to their roster.

This came as the Orioles traded for ace Corbin Burnes last winter. Milwaukee Breweries. After reaching the postseason for the second straight season, the team will look for another top arm to lead the roster as Burnes will test free agency for the first time in his career. However, it is worth noting that the possibility of reuniting with him is not ruled out.

The Orioles’ only change this offseason has been the organization’s new ownership. Elias thinks this change will help them be aggressive among the top free agents on the market.

“We just completed a team sale and have a new ownership group that is very well equipped, solid and eager to get going,” Elias said. “They understand that there are metrics to the way you do business, and they empower us to look for opportunities that will work well.

local businessman David Rubenstein now owns Baltimore. Following the Orioles’ postseason elimination last month, he said in an interview with NPR that he hoped to “step up efforts” to get the team to the World Series. Adding another top man to the rotation will undoubtedly help the effort.

“If we find these opportunities, we have everything we need from them,” Elias said. “And if it’s financial that we need to make these things happen, I’m very confident and optimistic that they will be there for us.

“The best way to explain it is that this ownership group will ensure that we run this franchise to the best of its ability. That doesn’t mean we’re going to do anything disruptive, short-term or long-term.”

If the Orioles decide to go in a different direction than Burnes during MLB Free Agency this winter, there are still plenty of solid options that could land on a roster.

Two left-handed pitchers lead among top prospects Atlanta Braves Max Fried and Blake Snell make their debut. San Francisco Giants.

Besides Burnes, Jake Flaherty, the best right-handed option on the market, will also be a prime candidate to lead the Orioles’ rotation after winning the World Series. Los Angeles Dodgers. Flaherty joined the organization for the second half of the 2023 season after being acquired by Baltimore. St. Louis Cardinals.

There will certainly be some competition, and they will likely engage in a bidding war for the services of these top-tier arms on the market, but that may not be an issue for the Orioles with the new group at the helm.
