UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — Every runner participating in a marathon, let alone the New York Marathon, knows that their body must be at full strength. And there is a business that specializes in this.

StretchLab is preparing runners for next month’s event by stretching people’s bodies for them.

Flexologists gently open the hips and relax the back and shoulders.

“They come in and say I can suddenly tie my shoes,” said StretchLab’s Kristo Ruffennach. “All of a sudden they’re walking better.”

Trained flexologists come from a therapy or rehabilitation background and have more than 100 hours of training in these areas.

Grace Adams, who is running the marathon for the second year in a row, says workers there are getting the job done.

“It feels great to be stretched by someone else,” he said. “They take their results where they know how.”

StretchLab representatives also acknowledged that it’s not just runners who come for their services, but they also receive heavy bookings immediately after the marathon.

They offer a 25-minute session the day after the race for $39.

The 2024 TCS New York City Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 3. On Channel 7 and wherever you stream ABC 7 New York begins with pre-race coverage, Marathon Sunday at 7:00 a.m. Live coverage of the Marathon begins at 8:00 a.m. only on Channel 7 and ESPN2.
