Terry told the court that on July 15, 2021, he pulled a makeshift knife on a counselor working at the detention centre. Terry was 18 years old at the time.

Prosecutors said Terry hid the gun under his shirt and told the counselor they would leave together.

When the counselor tried to escape, Terry grabbed her by the hair and threatened to stab her. Other staff at the detention center rushed to the counselor’s aid and disarmed Terry.

A St. Louis Circuit Court judge sentenced Terry to seven years in state prison; There are just over three years left for this sentence to be served.
