Man killed in shooting in Detroit’s infamous ‘Red Zone’

Detroit — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in broad daylight Thursday in one of the city’s highest-crime neighborhoods.

Detroit Police Department officials said the incident occurred at 12:45 a.m. on Saratoga Boulevard near Seven Mile and Gratiot in the “Red Zone,” a neighborhood on the city’s east side. It is known for its gangs and violence.

Officer Justin Hearn said police were called to the scene after the ShotSpotter sensor detected gunshots.

“(Officers) found the victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds,” Hearn told The Detroit News. “He was transported to a local hospital by paramedics and succumbed to his injuries.”

Other details were not released Friday.

The incident follows other violent incidents in the city last month. fatal shot on the east side.
