There’s some snow in the Arizona mountains on Sunday, but how much?

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — A cold front moving in this weekend will probably bring profit for parts of Arizona’s higher elevations through Sunday, but amounts remain unclear.

The front will move through Saturday night into Sunday. For the mountains, this will bring strong winds, rain and snow in higher elevations that could continue until Monday morning.

Most of Saturday will be dry, but winds will begin to pick up at around 30 mph. Rain and snowfall are expected to start on Saturday night and continue until Sunday morning.

Snow levels will begin to drop on Sunday, so areas like Flagstaff could see mostly snowfall late Sunday night. Rain, snow and wind are expected to continue through Monday morning, with the system expected to continue into Monday evening.

Snowfall amounts are still uncertain, but there are early forecasts from two different weather models: the GFS (American) model and the Euro (European) model.

European model snow forecast
European model snow forecast(3TV/CBS5)

Note that the two models actually have fairly similar predictions, although the European model indicates heavier amounts in the White Mountains southeast of Pinetop.

Although it’s too early to predict exact snowfall amounts, these weather models show places like Flagstaff could get an inch or two around it, but elevations above 7,000 feet could get 2 to 5 inches of snow. Traveling from Sunday through Sunday night may be difficult, so be careful and stay tuned for updates!
