One person died in conflict and tension with police in Saraland

SARALAND, Ala. (WALA) – A police chase led to a shooting and a shootout on Ideal Drive at Shelton Beach Road in Saraland this morning, according to the Mobile Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Paul Burch, the Internet Crimes Against Children unit attempted to obtain an arrest warrant for an individual for child pornography.

Sheriff Burch said the unit conducted a traffic stop when they spotted a handgun. During that conversation, Burch said the man sped away, but deputies performed a pit maneuver to stall the man.

The man was able to regain his composure after the pit maneuver and fired several shots at deputies, Burch said. Deputies returned fire until the man entered his home, according to Sheriff Burch.

The person barricaded himself in the house. According to Sheriff Burch, this was when deputies attempted to communicate with the man, but negotiations were unsuccessful after the individual began shooting at law enforcement and law enforcement returned fire. He states that more than 100 bullets were fired during the exchange.

It was announced that the person involved in the conflict lost his life.
