Seven people arrested following reported break-ins at hurricane-damaged Garner Industries facility

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of trespassing and theft at a Garner Industries facility that was smashed by an attacker. Hurricane on April 26 There are 70 workers inside.

Lancaster County Deputy Chief Ben Houchin said wire, copper and steel were taken from the area where no trespassing signs were located. Some of the fences surrounding the building were destroyed.

Deputies arrested the suspects on multiple charges, including trespassing, theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine and driving under suspension. Deputies also cleared several outstanding warrants for suspects.

Houchin added that one person was reportedly found with more than $1,000 worth of scrap iron in the bed of his truck.

“One of the biggest problems is that it is dangerous,” Houchin said. “There are a lot of sharp objects and they go there at night, it’s hard to see and Garner Industries doesn’t want people there in any way.”

Garner Industries plans to file criminal charges against unauthorized persons at its facilities.

“Garner Industries doesn’t want people on their property, and especially not stealing from it,” Houchin said.

In July, the Lincoln City Council approved this project. moving the company to a new location northeast of Lincoln. Seventy employees still remain with the company.
