Police say a white SUV ignored traffic lights when it crashed into a gray SUV, which was recorded on surveillance video.

One person in the white SUV was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he later died, police said. Another person from the white SUV was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The female driver of the gray SUV suffered a concussion and was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital in serious condition, police said. A male passenger with a hip injury was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital and was listed in serious condition.

One man said he saw passengers being removed from the car and was thankful no gas pumps were hit during the crash.

“I heard the impact because I turned my head for a second and when I looked back, all I saw was the gray car almost pushing the car into the gas pump and the white car almost tipping over,” crash witness Larry said. “The car’s airbags popped and I looked up and went ‘Wow’ and that’s when everything stopped.”

Police said traffic tickets are expected and the Major Accidents unit is investigating.
