Caitlin Clark’s Next Hot Coach Was Likely a Familiar Foe During Her WNBA Rookie Season

Indiana Fever announced Sunday Parted ways with second-year head coach Christie Sides.

Considering Sides led the Fever to the WNBA playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade this season, it would make sense for her to believe that the Fever are either very close to (or already have) someone she believes is better. Set to replace Sides.

And October 27 Reporting by Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times conveys that the person will most likely be present Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White.

Costabile wrote in his article: “The Fever is paving the way for Stephanie White’s return to Indiana. Although nothing has been made official, many sources expect White, who is still under contract with the Sun, to be the Fever’s next coach.”

White – who He spent five seasons with Ateş During her WNBA playing days, she was an assistant coach for Indiana from 2011-2014 and then took on head coaching duties with the team during the 2015-2016 seasons; She has proven to be an elite head coach in the WNBA.

Not only did she win the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year award, but her excellence is evident in how she contained Fever superstar Caitlin Clark this season.

Clark played a total of six times with White’s Sun during the 2024 season, including her first and last game (Connecticut eliminated the Fever from the 2024 WNBA playoffs). That’s more than Indiana has played any other team.

The former Iowa Hawkeyes icon averaged 17 points per game over those six contests; this was below an average of 19.2 points per game for the season.

Not to mention the Ates went 1-5 against the Gunes.

White seems to have a better idea than anyone about slowing down Clark’s iconic offense. But if White becomes the next head coach, that wisdom could soon be used to make Clark even better.
