Katrina Tulloch was the lead reporter on the story. Christa Lemczak directed and produced the documentary, with videography by N. Scott Trimble and additional reporting by Samantha House. “Carol Ryan deserved to live a long and happy life,” said reporter Katrina Tulloch. “We wanted to tell Carol’s story because she can’t tell it herself. One of the investigation’s most fascinating interviews was with Carol Ryan’s only son, Shawn Hamilton.

He spoke at length with syracuse.com to share his precious memories of his mother, his ongoing frustrations with law enforcement, and his hopes for a resolution in his mother’s case.

“I am grateful that Shawn shared his mother’s life story with us and that we were able to tell the world about his mother, the way she knew and loved him,” said Christa Lemczak, the documentary’s director and producer.

“I remember editing the interview with Shawn that Katrina and Scott filmed at the cemetery where Carol is buried. I had tears in my eyes when Shawn shared: ‘I have hope… I just pray for closure for my family, for my mother to have someone who can shed some light on this issue.’ ”

Lemczak said one of the biggest challenges in making this documentary was editing hours of interviews in which experts recounted the harrowing details of Carol’s murder.

“Carol’s murder was sad and disturbing and watching the former Coroner Interview by Mary Jumbelic It was hard for me,” Lemczak said. “But each time this documentary is shared with the world in a new way, I feel a small glimmer of hope that Carol’s killer will be found and brought to justice.”
