Norwegian dinner at Grace Lutheran on November 1 | News, Sports, Jobs



ALPENA — Grace Lutheran Church is hosting a traditional Norwegian meatball dinner on Friday, Nov. 1, to celebrate its 150th anniversary and raise funds to support its 150th fund, which will be used for community outreach programs, including the Little Food Pantry.

119 W. Dunbar St. The church, located at , was founded in 1873 by members of the Norwegian community who came to Alpena for new opportunities. The church has remained in the same location on Dunbar Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues since its founding. The current church building was built in 1882.

The dinner will be hosted by community members and will take place on Friday at 18:00.

Pickup option is available between 17.00 and 18.00 in the evening. The menu includes traditional Norwegian meatballs, mashed potatoes, green casserole and Norwegian churros for dessert; fruit waffle cookies filled with custard and crème fraîche, including krumkake. Many of the recipes used for the dinner come from members of the congregation with Norwegian ties.

All members of the community are invited to enjoy the meal and meet new community members.
