Winnipeg police: Woman attacked in U of M dormitory

Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect after a woman’s dorm room at the U of M was broken into and assaulted.

Police said officers were called to the University of Manitoba student housing complex on Dafoe Road around 4:45 a.m.

A woman told investigators that someone broke into her room and attacked her while she was sleeping.

He managed to fight off the individual and scream for help. University security and police were called.

Construction Dani McKinnon said the woman’s room was not on the main floor of the building.

Police said the woman was treated for her injuries and her condition was stable.

Investigators have now released images of a suspect and are looking for a man between six feet and six feet tall with shaggy long hair and a beard.

The man was wearing a black hat, a black jacket, a gray hooded sweater underneath, blue jeans and black shoes. He was also carrying a black and blue backpack.

The suspect is believed to be a “homeless” person, McKinnon said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers. Police said investigators are working with the university.
