Driver who crashed on Georgetown Road was taken to hospital

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police responded to a crash on Georgetown Road Wednesday morning.

According to first responders, the single-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Georgetown Road and Berea Road. The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“No one likes to hear bad news about an accident,” said newly elected District 12 council member Hil Boone.

While campaigning for his new position on the Lexington Fayette Urban County Council, Boone heard from voters who live on Georgetown Road.

“I talked to the Oakwood Estates neighborhood and their main concern was traffic,” Boone said. “I know the speed that passed them by Red State towards Georgetown was a straight shot that people tend to speed at.”

“Oh, people can’t drive,” said Jeanna Carr, who works on Georgetown Road.

Carr attributes this to pacing and distraction, both of which he witnessed firsthand. A 2-lane section of Georgetown Road with almost no shoulder doesn’t help, according to Carr.

“They need to do something,” Carr said. “I don’t know what they can do, but there must be something they can do.”

There is a plan, but it has not yet taken physical form.

The state’s recently approved two-year highway plan allocates more than $120 million for Fayette County road improvements.

This includes widening Georgetown Road between Kearney and Ironworks, but construction likely won’t start until 2026.

Until then?

“Be very careful, very alert to be careful on Georgetown Road,” Carr advised.
