ESCANABA, Michigan (WLUC) – Escanaba has a new restaurant for macaroni and cheese lovers.

Owners of Drifter’s Restaurant are opening “I Heart Mac & Cheese” restaurant.

This is the franchise’s second location in Michigan and first in the UP. The brand is known for its customizable macaroni and cheese bowls and grilled cheese sandwiches.

“I thought about my daughter, she loves macaroni and cheese,” said restaurant owner Liza Plourde. “So I thought: ‘How great would it be to have this franchise in Upper Michigan?’

The store opened on Wednesday, but the grand opening celebration will take place on Monday. The ribbon cutting ceremony is at 10:30. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and the first 25 paying customers will receive free macaroni and cheese for a year.
