Bainimarama files civil suit – FBC News

A civil lawsuit was filed against the government and the Attorney General’s Office by former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

The case is for failure to correctly pay pension and bonus payments due to Bainimarama.

The plaintiff requested that the remaining gratuity of US$ 337,211.12 be paid to him by the government and that he be declared entitled to a fortnightly pension payment of US$ 7,112.37 by the first defendant.

The former Prime Minister also sought judgment in the amount of $337,211.12 and an order directing the first defendant to pay pre-judgment interest on the judgment amount at the existing lending bank’s 13.5 per cent overdraft rate.

He also requested that the first defendant pay post-judgment interest from the date of judgment until full payment is made, that the first defendant be ordered to pay the plaintiff’s costs on a full attorney-client basis, and for other relief as follows: The court may find it just and equitable.

Although court documents suggested that Bainimarama had the above rights, the Attorney General’s Office defended this.

The report claims that the salaries of the Prime Minister, Ministers and other public officials specified in Part A of the 2014 Parliamentary Remunerations Act have been reduced by 20 percent in March 2022, in accordance with the decisions of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

AOG said there was no decision before Bainimarama’s retirement, so his salary when he retired was $263,000 a year.

The matter has been postponed to February 5 next year.
