Gayton vows to deal with brain damage that caused ‘Power Slap’ on SA

Minister Gayton McKenzie has promised to introduce the risky sport of Power Slap to the country next year, and many South Africans are worried about it.

Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, previously defended decision to legalize car flipping – made the announcement on the popular X account.

GAYTON MCKENZIE PROMISES DEADLY SPORTS

After meeting UFC founder Dana White last month, Gayton McKenzie recently revealed that the CEO was in talks to bring his other sport, Power Slap, to South Africa.

He tweeted: “This sport is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Power Slap really goes everywhere. I’m happy he’s coming to South Africa next year. I believe we will have more champions at home soon.”

In the Power Slap competition, two competitors slap each other’s faces with open hands, with full force, in order to win a championship. According to the rules, a person who is slapped cannot flinch, raise his shoulders, or pull his chin in. They have 60 seconds to recover from the slap, which usually results in fainting or loss of consciousness. Worryingly, no protective headgear was worn.

Despite the sport’s online popularity, the minister’s announcement left many social media users concerned about the sport’s security aspect.

@VRA2021: “This is the cause of brain trauma and Parkinson’s disease. “This is the stupidest thing ever.”

@lln1982: “Have you checked the health consequences (immediate and latent) of these power slaps? “Facial paralysis, bell paralysis, neck trauma, TMJ and upper spinal cord injuries are some of the side effects of ridiculous sports activities.”

@simplite1: “I wouldn’t recommend anyone to do this to their child. Or any human for that matter. “This is not a sport and our government should not encourage citizens to cause irreparable damage to their health in this way!”

DANGERS OF POWER SLAPS

Accordingly a few experts, Power Slap sports and other varieties have harmful health risks.

These include:

  • Severe concussions and irreparable neurological damage
  • The inner brain bleeds.
  • hearing loss
  • seizures
  • Death

In an open letter calling for the Power Slap to be banned, neurologist Dr. Gregory O’Shanick wrote:: “There will be deaths from this, no doubt. There will be deaths.”

according to BBCPolish Power Slap fighter Artur Walczak suffered a brain hemorrhage in a match in 2021, during which he was knocked out and lost consciousness.

Weeks later, he died of multiple organ failure due to head trauma.

IS GAYTON MCKENZIE’S LATEST WORD OF POWER A RESPONSIBLE WORD?
