Is it time to consider selling Haaland in FPL?

After nine Gameweeks in 2024/25, Erling Haaland (£15.4m) by far the most popular player Fantasy Premier LeagueMore than 73 percent owned by managers Manchester City star.

But five of the top 10 managers and 11 of the top 20 managers in the world do not have a Norwegian. So should managers consider selling Haaland?

Here, Scout He compares the striker’s start to that of his top-flight rivals in 2024/25 and shows what a “Haaland-less” squad could look like.

How does Haaland compare to his premium rivals?

Haaland ranked third in the player rankings with 75 points, scoring 11 goals in the first nine match weeks, collecting an average of 8.3 points per match.

Still outperformed him Liverpool‘s Mohammed Salah (£12.7 million) and Chelsea‘s Cole Palmer (£11.0 million) for their versatile output.

Salah accompanied Haaland’s 11 goals, scoring six goals and assisting five more, collecting 84 points. The Egyptian has achieved SIX double-digit goals in his first nine games under new head coach Arne Slot.

Meanwhile, Palmer scored 12 goals, the most in the league, scoring seven goals and providing five assists to collect 79 points.

At a cost of £11.0 million in Fantasy, this means Palmer returns 7.2 points per million spent; This is the most impressive among premium players. Haaland, by contrast, is the SECOND LOWEST among value premiums, earning just 4.9 points per million spent due to his massive £15.4 million price tag.

Output of premium stars compared
Actor G+A Point/match gaps Points/million
Palmer 12 8.8 3 7.2
Salah 11 9.3 2 6.7
Joke 10 7.9 1 6.3
watkins 7 5.7 4 5.6
Haland 11 8.3 3 4.9
Son 6 6.8 3 4.1

Bukayo Saka (£10.0 million) proved to be the most consistent player in the analysis. Arsenal The winger has been cleared just once in eight games.

Aston Villa‘s Ollie Watkins (£9.1m) has been much less reliable, with four clearances in nine outings. However, at 5.6 points per million spent, Watkins is another player who offers better value than Haaland due to the significant £6.3 million cost difference between the pair.

Son Heung-minHis potential as a big hitter in midfield (£9.9 million) is highlighted by his 6.8 points per game in six games. Tottenham Hotspur.

Who is more likely to score?

During Haland Although he compares poorly with most of his top-flight rivals in terms of value, managers considering selling him should be aware that his goal threat stats are much better than those of other players.

His 43 shots and 39 shots inside the penalty area are more than any other player this season. He is also the No. 1 player in terms of big chances (situations where the player is expected to score) with 14 overall.

Despite watkins‘ 21 shots is less than HALF Haaland’s total, with little to separate the pair for big chances and the Villa star sits second overall with 12 points.

Salah And Palmer He is the best player in terms of big chances among top-class midfielders with 10 and eight points respectively.

Similar to Haaland and Watkins, the duo’s goal conversion rates look sustainable due to their top-notch finishes. The same can be said for . Son, Joke‘s finish was much less impressive. Only four of his 27 shots were deemed big chances and as a result the Arsenal star scored just 11.1 percent of his shots.

Goal threat of premium stars 24/25
Actor shots Shots in the box great luck Target conversion
Haland 43 39 14 25.6%
watkins 21 21 12 23.8%
Salah 27 25 10 22.2%
Palmer 29 17 8 24.1%
Joke 27 21 4 11.1%
Son 12 7 3 25.0%

Clearly, the goal threat statistics only highlight that selling Haaland is a huge risk as he is the player most likely to score.

However, when saying this, you should also take into account the scoring system in Fantasy. Midfielders earn one point more than forwards for every goal they score and one point for every goal their team scores, while forwards are not rewarded. So Fantasy midfielders can be more effective.

Who is more likely to get an assist?

Combining each player’s goal threat with their creativity helps paint a clearer picture of their all-round potential in Fantasy.

Haland‘s five key passes and one great chance created are the LOWEST ones in the rating here. As he is the focal point of his side’s attack, he is the least likely to receive assists from premium players.

Creativity stats help highlight players such as: Palmer, Joke And Salah They have a big advantage over the Man City star in terms of assist potential.

For example, despite being behind Haaland’s 14 with eight big chances in the table above, Palmer created another nine such opportunities. Therefore, he was involved in a total of 17 big opportunities compared to Haaland’s 15 total.

So while 53 percent (nine out of 17) of Palmer’s big chances are due to his creativity, only seven percent (one in 15) of Haaland’s big chances are due to creativity.

Similarly, Saka could outpace Haaland with four big chances to 14 but created a further 12 such opportunities. This means he was involved in 16 big chances to Haaland’s 15.

Meanwhile, a third (five out of 15) of Salah’s big-ticket involvements are down to his creativity.

In fact, due to their all-round performances, it is notable that Salah, Palmer and Saka were involved in a higher percentage of their respective team’s goals than Haaland when selected this season.

Creativity of premium stars 24/25
Actor key transitions Great chances were created Total big chance participation Target engagement
Palmer 20 9 17 63%
Joke 20 12 16 59%
Salah 12 5 15 65%
Haland 5 1 15 55%
watkins 6 2 14 50%
Son 13 4 7 38%

The statistics then show that Haaland is almost exclusively about pure goal threat, and his creativity is so minimal that he has become almost redundant.

However, the same cannot be said for Palmer, Salah, Saka or Son as their creativity significantly increases their big chance involvement and scoring potential in Fantasy.

Who has the best fixtures?

An assessment of each club’s calendar shows Haaland has the toughest upcoming season among premium players.

according to Fixture Difficulty Levels (FDR), where the easiest possible fixture receives one point and the most difficult fixture receives five points, Manchester City’s next eight matches resulted in a total of 27 goals, equating to an average of 3.4. Indeed, only ONE of these matches only gets two points, Crystal Palace In Gameweek 15.

By contrast, FOUR from Chelsea’s next eight games have yielded just two points, with Palmer facing promotion double City of Leicester And southamptontogether Brentford And Everton.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal have averaged 2.9 points in the FDR this term, with Liverpool just behind on 3.0 points.

Average FDR score of GW10-17 competitors
Actor Average FDR score
Palmer 2.9
Joke 2.9
Salah 3.0
watkins 3.3
Son 3.3
Haland 3.4

Similar to Palmer, Salah’s 10-17. They have FOUR matches in the matchweeks with only two points. Brighton and Hove AlbionSouthampton, Everton and at Fulham It gives the Egyptian the chance to make larger shipments.

When this factor is combined with their goal and assist potential, it becomes clear that Palmer, Salah and Saka have fixtures to surpass Haaland in the next eight-game period.

What might a “Haaland-less” squad look like?

Looking at the data so far, it is undeniable that Haaland is very likely to retain his Golden Boot award as the league’s top scorer for a third consecutive season.

But both Palmer and Salah’s statistics show that it’s not just about the goals; Their assist potential far exceeds that of the Norwegian.

These two should be front and center in any “Haaland-less team”, while Saka’s ridiculous consistency cannot be ignored – and you can afford all three if you go without Haaland.

Add Brentford‘s Bryan Mbeumo (£7.7m) and you can have a lethal four-man midfield made up entirely of penalty takers.

Haaland has no squad

Haaland’s price tag could also be reinvested in defence, so you could have two of the top four scorers in that position. Gabriel (£6.3 million) and Josko Gvardiol (£6.2 million).

In the meantime, managers should evaluate each club’s program to help them capitalize on the fantastic value offered by a number of strikers who are suitable alternatives to Haaland.

Wolverhampton TravelerS’ Matheus Cunha (£6.5 million), Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood (£6.4m) and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa (£5.9 million) all have programs to expand their excellent form.

According to FDR, only two goals were scored in the next eight matches of SEVEN of Wolves, giving Cunha the chance to add four goals and 41 points.

Wood was the second-highest scoring forward in Fantasy with seven goals and 59 points. They have meetings at home West Ham United And Newcastle United A move to Wissa could be a wise move at this point, before the schedule becomes challenging over the next two matchweeks.

Wissa scored four goals and made two assists in just five games and averaged an impressive 7.6 points per game in these seasons. Three of his next four matches took FDR just two points, underlining his appeal as a formidable source of value in Fantasy at just £5.9m.
