Indian Canyon Drive, Gene Autry Trail reopens in Palm Springs

(This article has been updated with new information.)

North Indian Canyon Drive and the Gene Autry Trail reopened Tuesday morning in Whitewater Wash after being closed overnight due to high winds and blowing sand, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

The Gene Autry Trail reopened shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday after the trail between Salvia Road and East Via Escuela was closed just before 5 p.m. Monday. Indian Canyon Drive reopened about an hour ago Tuesday.

Vista Chino, which was frequently closed due to sand blowing, remained open despite the strong wind.

The overnight closures come after the National Weather Service issued a wind warning for the Coachella Valley from 11 a.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday with winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.

Weather officials warned that winds could blow around unsecured objects and knock down tree branches, potentially leading to power outages.
