Speeding motorcyclist killed in crash in Far Northeast Philly, police say

A motorcyclist who police say was speeding and swerving across lanes was killed in a crash Saturday afternoon in the Somerton section of Northeast Philadelphia.

Police said the 22-year-old man riding the motorcycle was traveling north on Bustleton Avenue when he collided with a wrong-way vehicle making a left turn onto Tomlinson Road around 3:30pm on Saturday.

The motorcyclist, who police did not identify Saturday evening, was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 4:20 p.m., according to police.

A total of 4 vehicles were involved in the accident. Police said that after the motorcycle and the vehicle collided, two cars following the vehicle turned and hit the vehicle from behind. No additional injuries were reported.

This is an evolving story.
