13-year-old boy among three people charged over Edinburgh’s Bonfire Night mayhem

A 13-year-old boy is among three people charged in connection with the Bonfire Night disorder in Edinburgh.

The teenager was arrested in connection with vandalism at the Macklin Motors car dealership on Friday, which caused £20,000 worth of damage to vehicles.

He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 10.

Officers investigating serious disturbances on Calder Road arrested a 38-year-old man following an incident where fireworks were allegedly set off near Dunsire House North.

He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, December 5.

A car was seen stopping among a group of young people and then taking some fireworks from the vehicle.

Officers said these were then used to cause disorder and antisocial behavior in the Gracemount area.

A 40-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 10.

Detective Chief Inspector George Calder, of Edinburgh CID, said: “Following the chaos that put our communities on alert on Bonfire Night, we made it clear that we would be relentless in our pursuit of those responsible and these arrests are just the first of many more to follow as we continue to pursue various positive lines of inquiry.

“You may think you’ve avoided arrest because we’re not at your doorstep yet, but we will be doing so very soon.

“The public still has a vital role to play in helping us identify anyone involved in the crime that occurred on 5 November by providing us with photographic or video evidence through our Major Incident Public Portal.

“Please send your footage to https://mipp.police.uk/operation/SCOT24S16-PO1.”
