GPS, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and Girls Inc. GPS subfields were buzzing with excitement as students gathered to celebrate Chattanooga Girl’s Day, a day focused on empowerment, fun and friendship among young women. The event was organized as a partnership between the three organizations to strengthen connections and celebrate the impact of girls’ education, officials said.

The festival started early in the afternoon with the arrival of CGLA students, who were welcomed by DJ NIP’s high-energy team. The sounds of music and laughter filled the air as GPS students joined the field and the group indulged in a variety of activities, from group dancing and games to enjoying cool ice cream on a sunny fall day. While both GPS and CGLA provide games like Gaga Ball, volleyball, mini golf, and Connect Four, Girls Inc. added to the creative fun with bubbles and sidewalk chalk. Teachers from each organization helped coordinate and support students who enjoyed each activity.

Later, students came together for a special program to celebrate this special day. CGLA Residence CEO Yolanda Williams opened with a warm welcome and introduction of Chattanooga Girls Day, followed by Girls Inc. It started with inspiring words from Fance Brannock, director of Program Operations. GPS Student Council President Gwyneth Parks shared her thoughts on the importance of educating all girls, emphasizing the strength and solidarity it creates among young women. A young CGLA graduate motivated the gathered students and encouraged them to fearlessly pursue their dreams.

The program concluded with heartfelt thanks and closing remarks from Director of Student Life and Associate Dean of Students Lauren Lawrence Swanson ’09, who expressed her gratitude to all participants and organizers for creating such a memorable and impactful day.
