One dies in fire at annex in Cornelius

CORNELIUS Ore. (KPTV) – A person rescued from a fire in Cornelius Wednesday evening was pronounced dead, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.

At around 7 p.m., crews responded to the 300 block of South Alpine Street following a report of a structure fire. Firefighters found a small, detached building engulfed in flames and were said to have a person asleep inside.

A woman was injured after being struck by a car in Gresham Saturday night, according to Gresham police.

The teams found the person after extinguishing the flames and searching the building. However, firefighters determined that the person died in the fire and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire investigators from Forest Grove Fire and Rescue and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are working to determine the cause of the fire.

According to firefighters, there were no working smoke alarms in the building.
