Police say girl killed in accidental shooting at Philly home – NBC10 Philadelphia

Editor’s Note: Philadelphia police initially said the child was 5 years old. It was later revealed that the child was 7 years old.

Two people were taken into custody after a teenage girl was killed in an accidental shooting at a Philadelphia home Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police were called to a home in the 3800 block of I Street around 2:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 7-year-old girl who had been shot in the face. Girl, St. He was taken to Christopher Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:39 p.m.

Police have not yet released the identity of the girl.

Investigators stated that at the time of the shooting, two adults were on the first floor of the home and three young children, including the victim, were on the second floor.

Philadelphia Police Superintendent DF Pace told NBC10 that the attack was accidental and that the 7-year-old girl either grabbed the gun and accidentally shot herself or a 2-year-old child in the home accidentally shot her.

Both the gun and the homeowner are in custody and the charges are subject to further investigation, Pace said.

Pace also said it is unclear at this time whether the victim lives at the home and whether the two people in custody are related to him.

“We still have a lot more information to gather to determine what criminal charges may be filed against any of these individuals,” Pace told NBC10. “There will be many discussions with the district attorney’s office to decide what is appropriate in this situation.”

Pace also had a message for gun owners.

“Responsible gun ownership requires that firearms be kept safe and out of the reach of young children,” he said.
