Daryl Katz and Garrett Camp are on the list of Canada’s 40 richest people

Katz Group and Oilers owner Daryl Katz were named to Maclean Magazine’s list of the 40 richest Canadians.

Katz ranks 29th on the list with a net worth of $5.84 billion. His rise to extreme wealth began when he expanded his Rexall drug stores across Canada and sold it to a U.S. pharmaceutical company for $3 billion.

The Edmonton-born billionaire is known for his association with the Oilers, purchasing the team for $200 million in 2008.

Katz later spent $2.5 billion transforming downtown Edmonton with the development of the ICE District, now known for its public plazas, shops and nearby hotels. Katz Group, DAK Capital, OEG Inc. and owns Katz Group Real Estate.

Garrett Camp in Calgary also ranks 20th on the list with a value of $7.02 billion.

Camp is best known for co-founding Uber in 2009. He stepped down from the board in 2020 and pledged to leave half his assets to charity.

He later founded Camp.org, a non-profit and charitable organization. Camp helped create projects to detect political deepfakes using artificial intelligence.
