SYRACUSE — Firefighters are at the scene of a fire at the Main Channel Marina, 720 S. Lakeside Drive, Syracuse. Pickwick Road is currently closed to traffic. Five fire departments responded.

Millions of dollars of damage to the marina and its inventory is expected.

An explosion and fire at the marina was reported to the Türkiye Creek Fire District at around 14.54. The Syracuse Police Department investigated and saw flames from Palm Drive and Lakeside Drive.

Türkiye Creek Fire District Fire Chief Mickey Scott reported that they received a report of a fire with explosions at that time. The caller was about a quarter mile away. The police department arrived on scene and reported flames were visible from Palm Drive and Lakeside Drive and the building was completely engulfed.

The fire broke out on the south side of the building, in the duct where the offices are located; That’s where fire officials believed the fire started at the time. A fire wall between the office and showroom areas appears to have prevented the fire from spreading into the store area.

Most of the damage was seen in showrooms and office areas.

The state fire marshal’s office will arrive at the scene and begin the investigation. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management was also called.

Firefighters from Benton, Milford, Tippecanoe County Fire District and Warsaw-Wayne Fire District were called to the scene with manpower and tanker support. WWFT was contacted to control any flow from the fire into nearby drains.
