Familiar Gladstone restaurant reopens with new owner and classic atmosphere

GLADSTONE, Mich. (WLUC) – A familiar restaurant with old favorites and a classic vibe has reopened under new ownership.

This includes his mother’s old canoe hanging from the ceiling of one of the dining areas.

Christie has more than 20 years of culinary experience. He is a classically trained French chef who graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland, Oregon. But Christie says there are plenty of UP favorites on the menu.

“We didn’t want to stray away from the old Delona concept of the past,” Christie said. “We wanted this to be a place people remembered and were familiar with, so our tagline is ‘Old Favorites with Classic Flair’ and a little bit of French cuisine added to the mix. The menu includes breakfast with waffles, eggs and more, as well as classic sandwiches like the Reuben served on freshly baked bread.

Christie added that his goal is to provide excellent food with better customer service.

“This is definitely something I hold close to my heart,” Christie said. “I would like Delona to be a family-friendly place where people would pull into the parking lot, put their troubles aside and let us take care of them for an hour to an hour and a half.”

The restaurant was nominated in six categories in the Daily Press Readers’ Choice Best of the Best contest.

“This tells me I’m doing my job,” Christie said. “I absolutely love hospitality and making people feel comfortable.”

Christie said he hopes to use his restaurant to serve groups in the area, such as the Boy Scouts or local sports teams. The back room can seat up to 30 people. He said all he needed to make it happen was a little advance notice.

Delona Open Tuesday to Sunday 08:00 – 14:00 Friday fish fry 16:00 – 19:00

The restaurant is located at 7132 US 2 in Gladstone. For large group reservations, call 906-212-2177.
