Man tried to run over Fairfax officer at traffic stop, 5 arrested: Police

Five people were arrested Tuesday after a man tried to run over a Fairfax police officer in traffic, according to authorities.

Police said they received a report of a theft at Ace Hardware on Main Street Market and located the suspects’ getaway car. When a police officer found the car during a traffic stop and approached, authorities said the driver shifted into reverse, striking the officer and injuring him.

Fairfax City and Fairfax County Police said they later identified all five suspects involved in the incident, and an investigation revealed that the driver who hit the officer had narcotics and a stolen gun on him.

Police said the driver, 32-year-old Ryan Leonard, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of narcotics while simultaneously possessing a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and attempted intentional wounding of a person. a charge of speeding to elude a law enforcement officer and police.

Another suspect, 28-year-old Lyric Bowers, had an active warrant for her arrest out of Maryland and was charged with grand larceny and probation violation, according to police. Breanna Gorman Berg, 19, Carroll Hall, 41, and Donte Clayton, 34, were charged with grand larceny for the burglary at Ace Hardware and are being held without bail, authorities said.
