Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh identifies ‘breakout star’ flying under radar

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed something fans have been feeling for a while:

The defense could have a breakout star on its hands.

The star in question was linebacker Daiyan Henley, and Harbaugh told reporters ahead of Week 10 against the Tennessee Titans: “Daiyan Henley, he’s a shining star. He’s on his way to becoming a superstar.”

Daiyan Henley, who the Chargers selected in the third round in 2023, started 15 games as a rookie but only played. 53 photos mostly while helping out on special teams.

Everything changed for Henley during his sophomore campaign. He played 87 percent of the snaps (438) in his first eight games, which earned him a point. 68.6 His PFF grade in the process is good for a top 45 out of 157.

It’s not just Harbaugh or the grades, either. Here’s what one analyst has to say about Henley’s play so far:

Just like that, coordinator Jesse Minter is making the most of Henley’s athleticism, and the sophomore is responding in a big way.

So no, Harbaugh’s coach-speak type statement should not be ignored.
