Panthers QB Bryce Young to start and re-start against Giants following recent trade rumors (Video)

The Carolina Panthers are sticking with Bryce Young for now after holding on to him at the trade deadline.

Head coach Dave Canales announced Wednesday that the Panthers will start Young on Sunday when they face the New York Giants at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. This will be Young’s third straight start after taking the job back from veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, who is recovering from a thumb injury he suffered in a car accident.

Young led the Panthers to a 23-22 victory over the New Orleans Saints last week thanks to the first game-winning touchdown pass of his career.

“It’s about progressing from one week to the next,” Canales said. via ESPN. “I always talk about finishing. This is everything. Finish games, practices, quarters, halves. Finish the games. “He did a great job of finishing (last week’s) game the right way, finding a way to win and really fighting that way.”

Young was 16-of-26 for 171 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the win against the Saints, marking Young’s first win of the season. Panthers 2-7.

Young had been benched following back-to-back defeats to start the year in Dalton’s favor and had been the target of trade rumors ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

But then Dalton was injured in a car accidentThe Panthers went back to Young and I’ve been with him ever sinceEven when Dalton was allowed back. General manager Dan Morgan also said he “never opened the door” to discuss trading the former No. 1 overall pick because he “didn’t want to.” However, it remains to be seen whether Young will remain the Panthers’ quarterback in the long term.

“We evaluate Bryce every week, every day we see him grow, develop, work under coaching and work with him,” Morgan said. via ESPN. “We are excited to see him grow every day. We are excited to work with him in the future.

“At the end of the day, after the season is over, we’ll have those (long-term) conversations and see where we are.”

The Giants enter the match in Germany with a 2-7 lead. They have lost four straight games and sit at the bottom of the NFC East standings.

While Young’s future in Carolina is still uncertain, he has a chance on Sunday to do something the Panthers haven’t seen since the start of the 2021 season: lead them to back-to-back wins.
