On Tuesday, Netanyahu announced that he had fired Gallant and replaced him with Foreign Minister Israel Katz.

Regarding his move, Netanyahu said, “In the middle of the war, full trust is needed between the prime minister and the defense minister more than ever,” and pointed out that there was a “crisis of trust” between him and the defense minister.

But in his speech on Tuesday, Gallant argued that he was fired because of his opposition to the nursery bill, Netanyahu’s reluctance to make a hostage deal and his reluctance to establish a National Commission of Inquiry into the events of October 7.
