Truck driver hit by screw conveyor dies

RHODOS, Michigan (WNEM) – A 65-year-old truck driver was killed Nov. 1 while picking up a load of soybeans, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) said.

According to MIOSHA’s preliminary investigation, a farm in Rhodes stored soybeans in two warehouses on a trailer attached to a truck. While moving empty bins back, the trailer or grain bin hit the screw conveyor, then overturned and the victim was pinned to the ground, MIOSHA said.

The death is believed to be covered by the MIOSH Act.

A formal MIOSHA investigation has not yet concluded.

This is the 28th Michigan worker death reported to MIOSHA in 2024.
