Brush fire in Cabell County brought under control

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Crews are responding to multiple brush fires in southern West Virginia. Department of Forestry officials confirmed the fire in the 4200 block of Big Seven Mile Road was under control.

“This isn’t one of the worst fires, but it’s one of the largest we’ve had this season,” Cabell County Forester Craig Elswick said.

The estimated 50-acre brush fire started in the 4200 block of Big Seven Mile Road and spread due to dry conditions, low humidity and ongoing drought, according to fire officials.

Multiple fire departments in West Virginia and Ohio helped contain the blaze.

A homeowner told WSAZ’S Abbey Lord that he returned from a hunting trip to see the burning and cried so much that he realized he shouldn’t take anything for granted as he watched his property burn.

Officials said no injuries were reported.
