Who is Betty McCollum?

McCollum has served Minnesota’s Fourth Congressional District since 2000 and says in his campaign that he is an advocate for education, protecting the environment, expanding access to health care and fiscal responsibility.

McCollum served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2000 before being elected to Congress.

In response to a Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) poll prior to the election asking why McCollum was running, McCollum responded: “I’m running to protect our democracy and our most basic freedoms, like women’s reproductive rights, from the dangers posed by Donald Trump and MAGA extremists.”

McCollum said his main concerns are climate action funding, attacks on reproductive rights and “Donald Trump’s extreme, authoritarian agenda.”

Who is May Lor Xiong?

During Lor Xiong’s campaign, he tried to focus on the economy, working families and rising inflation.

Lor Xiong was born in Ban Vinai, a refugee camp in Thailand, and lived there until she was 8 years old when her family immigrated to the United States.

In an MPR poll asking why he was running, he responded: “I cannot ignore the challenges facing the East Metro Twin Cities and America today. High inflation and rising crime rates are disrupting our lives, and our children’s education is suffering.”

Lor Xiong said their main goal is to fight for families suffering from inflation, adding, “Reckless spending in DC is stealing food from our children’s plates and their futures.”
