    “That’s when Toulon asked me to come on, just before they won three Champions Cups, they wanted me to come on and play seven times. “I remember flying there with my agent, staying there for the night, going there and the money I was going to take home was two or three times what I earned in Wales. I don’t see any harm in saying it will happen.

    “But I remember thinking, while I was there my wife called me and said ‘how did it happen?’ he said. I said, ‘You have to take me home.’ “What?” he said. ‘Not Rhiwbina,’ I said. ‘This isn’t home, it’s not home.’

    “I always thought I would play better if I was at home and I like the comfort of my home and I’m very close to my family so I want to be close to my family. Plus, I was the national captain, I didn’t think it would look good heading over there. France What would probably happen for more money?

    “So I thought it wasn’t the best thing for my career, I’d have a longer life if I stayed at home, I want to be a one-club man in Cardiff. I was just going to play for Cardiff.”
