Southern Maryland woman stunned with $150K Powerball prize

WALDORF, Dr. — A Charles County woman accustomed to managing large amounts of money was stunned to find herself with a $150,000 Powerball prize. The Southern Maryland financial advisor, who works with six- and seven-figure accounts every day, said seeing that amount added to his name was a completely different experience.

“It’s one thing to see all these zeros in a ledger at work, it’s one thing to see someone else’s financial accounts,” he told lottery officials. “Having your name on the check is a whole different story.”

The winner, who frequently plays Pick 4 and considers it his favorite game, decided to buy a Powerball ticket during a stop at the Waldorf 7-Eleven on Oct. 30. The next day, he scanned his ticket at a store and saw the message “See the lottery.” Confused, he asked the clerk to scan it and celebrated with a quick dance at the counter when he saw the $150,000 prize.

The winning ticket, purchased at the 7-Eleven at 11575 Berry Road, featured two combinations of his choosing, but his grand prize came from the Quick Pick line on the ticket.

The Charles County resident said although he was familiar with large sums of money, the unexpected windfall left him in disbelief.
