Bhairathi Ranagal is one of the most awaited Kannada movies of the year. The trailer starring Shiva Rajkumar in the lead role has been released and it has definitely increased the audience’s expectations for the film. It serves as a prequel to the 2017 blockbuster Mufti, starring Bhairathi Ranagal, Srii Murali and Shiva Rajkumar in lead roles. The iconic character of Bhairathi Ranagal, popularized in Mufti, now takes center stage in this solo venture, which also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Rahul Bose, Devaraj, Avinash and others.

Ravi Basrur returns with an intense background score that enhances the tone of the film. Known for his work in TV series KGF and Salaar, Basrur faced criticism in 2024 for his music in films such as Bheemaa (Telugu), Martin (Kannada) and Singham Again (Hindi). However, Bhairathi Ranagal trailer hinting that he is back in shape and setting the stage for a strong comeback.

Director Narthan, who made a promising debut with Mufti in 2017, seems to bring the same expertise to this film, taking advantage of Shiva Rajkumar’s strong presence on the big screen. The cinematography seems to be a notable feature, with the trailer stills showcasing the impressive work of lens expert Naveen Kumar and art designer Guna.

The antagonists, including Bollywood actor Rahul Bose and Kannada veterans Devaraj and Avinash, seem to have significant characters. Rukmini Vasanth looks intense in the role of the lawyer, but it is unclear how central her character is to the story. One drawback of Mufti was the unnecessary romantic subplot between Srii Murali and Shanvi Srivastava, which added little value to the narrative. Judging by the trailer, the film aims to delve deeper into the background of Bhairathi Ranagal, which was also touched upon in Mufti. With the script being so important for a film like this, it’s crucial that Narthan avoids unnecessary subplots that could negatively impact the main narrative, and we hope he’s learned from the feedback on Mufti to deliver a more seamless experience.
