Anger over Meesho selling Lawrence Bishnoi and Durlabh Kashyap t-shirts – The Week

E-retailer Meesho sparked outrage after selling T-shirts bearing images of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and the late Durlabh Kashyap.

The incident came to light when journalist Alishan Jafri published screenshots from lesser-known e-commerce platforms such as Meesho and Teleshopper, which sold T-shirts with images of gangsters.

Lawrence Bishnoi recently hit the headlines after allegations emerged that his gang was behind the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Bandra last month. His gang had also threatened to kill Salman Khan over the poaching case in 1998, in which he was accused of hunting two black deer. Blackbucks are considered sacred by the Bishnoi community.

Durlabh Kashyap, a gangster from Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh, was killed in December 2023.

Pointing out that gangster products are sold on platforms such as @Meesho_Official and Teeshopper, Jaffri said that this is just one example of online radicalization in the country.

The journalist said he had been following gangster fan groups on social media for most of October.

He noted that online influencers promote gang content and glorify gangsters to make a quick buck.

After this, netizens criticized Meesho, with one saying “Boycott Meesho” and the other sharing “Shame on you, Meesho.” “Even Dawood Ibrahim didn’t have this level of popularity,” said a third user.

Another user said, “The movie will be shot soon.” One user wrote: “Shame on Meesho and similar sites. Shame on you!” he said.
