Plymouth man arrested on DUI charges, speeding on Route 8

Watertown, CT (WFSB) A 26-year-old Plymouth man was arrested Saturday night after speeding and driving under the influence on Route 8.

According to Connecticut State Police, while enforcing proactive speed enforcement on northbound Route 8 near Exit 34 in Watertown, an officer observed a pickup truck traveling at 83 mph (well above the 55 mph posted speed limit).

The trooper initiated a traffic stop at the Exit 34 ramp, and the driver, later identified as Dakota Arsenault of Plymouth, complied by moving to the right side of the road.

Police checked the vehicle’s Connecticut registration and discovered that it had been suspended due to lack of insurance and that the registration did not match the truck.

Arsenault admitted that the vehicle was neither registered nor uninsured.

Further investigation revealed that Arsenault had been drinking.

He was later arrested and charged with several offenses, including operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of licence, speeding in excess of 70 miles per hour on a limited-access highway, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

Chemical tests on Trooper L confirmed that Arsenault’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.

Arsenault was released on $500 bail and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on November 13, 2024.
