Investigators charge 4 more South Carolina men in high school party shooting in Georgia

ELBERTON, GA. (AP) — Four more South Carolina men have been arrested on charges connected to a deadly shooting at a graduation party in Elberton, Georgia, on Oct. 12.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest of 20-year-old Destanne Mathis; Aanidras Parks, 18; Jerimiyah Hughes, 19; and 18-year-old Desmond Latimer last week. All four are residents of nearby Anderson, South Carolina, and face murder and gang charges. Mathis and Latimer are also charged with accessory to the crime, while Parks and Hughes are also charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

More than a dozen shots were fired at the 7 Grand nightclub, where many young people had gathered after the Elbert County High School graduation ceremony. Bry’shun Treviyus O’Brian Jordan, 15, of Hartwell, was killed. Four other teenagers were shot and three others were injured but not shot, authorities said.

Investigators had previously arrested 18-year-old Jarquavation Scott of Anderson, charging him with murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and violating Georgia’s anti-gang law.

It’s unclear whether any of the men have lawyers who can speak on their behalf.

Investigators did not discuss why they believe the attack occurred.
