Child killed, more injured in car crash at Melbourne primary school

An 11-year-old boy died in Australia when a woman picking up her son from primary school crossed a fence and crashed into a group of children.

The boy died after being seriously injured in the accident at Auburn South Elementary School in Hawthorn East around 2:30pm on Tuesday. Victoria Police confirmed.

Additionally, two 11-year-old girls, a 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were seriously injured and hospitalized.

The 40-year-old driver of the car has been arrested and will be interviewed by police.

Inspector Craig McEvoy said after going to the school to collect her child, the woman made a U-turn and crashed into a fence.
