Crime and Public Safety | San Leandro police arrested the two brothers on murder charges and put them in separate rooms. Police said the younger man told police everything

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — Two Hayward brothers are facing murder charges after they allegedly stalked a resident’s home and tried to steal marijuana and cash from him, then shot him in the neck after he resisted, according to court records.

The case is based on a wide variety of evidence; Their mother’s car was used in the crime, and cell phone records show that both siblings were allegedly at the location where the vehicle was later burned. But the latest news comes after San Leandro police arrested 28-year-old Mauricio Moreno and 19-year-old Erick Moreno on suspicion of murder last September.

Police said Erick Moreno, then 18, had gone crazy, as he was placed in a separate interrogation room from his brother. He allegedly told cops that he was the driver when they went to rob 53-year-old Anderson Choy at his home in San Leandro, Northern California, last May, and that his brother Mauricio was the one who shot Choy in the neck.

The brothers had been following Choy from a marijuana grow house in Hayward that evening after a tip from one of Mauricio’s friends, Erick told detectives. He said he didn’t know the man well, but the tipster assured the brothers that marijuana and cash would be found in the home, according to court records.
