The Same Edge Rusher Falcons Keep Appearing in Trade Rumors

Atlanta Falcons In Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys, the passing offense broke out. It was the first time they recorded multiple sacks since the season opener. The Falcons’ 3 sacks and 8 quarterback hits were season highs; The team’s 5 losing tackles were the highest since Week 1.

But that won’t change the fact that Atlanta’s biggest roster need ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline is a rusher. With that in mind, NFL pundits continue to mention one pass rusher as a trade candidate the Falcons should target: New York Giants forward Azeez Ojulari.

Bleacher Report’s NFL scouting department again called Ojulari the top “add now” option for the Falcons on Monday.

“It’s been mentioned a few times over the past few weeks that the Falcons might need some help getting the edge, especially considering Matthew Judon isn’t very strong.” wrote BR’s team. “With the trade deadline looming ever closer, the club was recently matched with the No. 1 overall player in B/R’s NFL Trade Block Big Board rankings.”

Falcons coach says the defense is close to turning the corner with its passing offense. But while that appeared to be the reality on Sunday, the Falcons could easily add another pass rusher to shore up the team’s biggest weakness.

Despite their pass rush against the Cowboys, the Falcons remain in the bottom five in sack percentage and pressure rate. They are also still in last place with 9 matches played this season.

Prior to Week 9, Ojulari’s 6 sacks were as many as the Falcons’. still exist 6 sacks, 7 tackles for loss, 9 quarterback hits and 26 combined tackles in nine games this season.

It is possible for Ojulari to set new career highs in all four of these categories.

The 24-year-old native of Marietta, Ga., who played college football at the University of Georgia, will become a free agent this summer. However, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on his network’s pregame show Sunday that a team could acquire Ojulari with the goal of signing him to a long-term deal at the trade deadline.

In 44 career NFL games, Ojulari shared 105 combined tackles with 22 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, and 36 quarterback hits.

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 4pm ET.
