Lincolnshire police and crime commissioner’s funding warning

Mr Jones told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “Unfortunately the budget did nothing to alleviate the financial difficulties faced.

“Given that the vast majority of expenditure is on staff and officers, this will mean that a completely new model of policing will need to be developed and implemented by the chief constable and his team to stay within the current budget.

“I have great confidence that he will do everything possible to deliver the best service he can to Lincolnshire communities, but I must be clear that if the Government does not act now to support Lincolnshire Police we will notice a difference in service levels.”

The commissioner said he wanted a judicial review of money provided by central government, claiming Lincolnshire was the “most underfunded force in the UK”.

The force said it received £196 per head from the government, compared to £246 in Humberside and £221 in Norfolk.
