Ange Postecoglou reveals decision to replace Heung-min Son in Aston Villa win

Ange Postecoglou He announced his decision to change Tottenham captain Heung-min’s Son Early in the second half of Sunday’s 4-1 win against Aston Villa.

Son was substituted just 56 minutes after returning from injury.

The South Korean had set up an equalizer for Spurs for Brennan Johnson and appeared surprised to be substituted.

He later appeared frustrated as he sat on the bench in the second half.

Son had missed seven of the previous eight Spurs matches and was sidelined after the 4-1 win over West Ham on October 19 with a hamstring problem.

Speaking after the win over Villa, Postecoglou said: “He was never going to play more than 55 minutes.

“The last time he came back from injury, he had reached the 60th minute and was injured again. He survived unscathed.”

Postecoglou also praised Dominic Solanke after his superb late double.

“An incredible effort,” Postecoglou said. “The work he did against (Manchester) City in midweek… his goals are incredible but his overall play, his work rate, I can’t speak highly enough of him.

Postecoglou also praised James Maddison, who added luster to Spurs’ big win with a superb free-kick after coming off the bench.

Postecoglou said: “The game wasn’t going the way it should have been for me to bring Madders into the game. I tell the guys they are all there to contribute. Madders will be the key for us.”
