Multiple Guard Defenders Earn 2024 Gold Glove Awards

Cleveland Guards He surprised many fans, analysts and opposing teams in the 2024 season. But one area that should be included in every team’s scouting report was incredible team defense.

Rawlings announced the 2024 Gold Gloves winners on Sunday evening and, unsurprisingly, multiple members of the Guardians team took home awards.

Andres Gimenez isn’t just Cleveland’s best defensive back, he’s also one of the best linebackers in baseball. He is more than deserving of winning the 2024 Gold Glove Award for second base, the third of Gimenez’s young career.

Cleveland’s second baseman can do almost all of that defensively. He ranked in the 100th percentile in above-average outings and the 97th percentile in fielding value.

Gimenez routinely makes diving grabs to deprive players of hits, has incredible reaction time to line shots coming his way, and is arguably the best middle man on outfield relays. For those unfamiliar with Gimenez’s defensive game, he made sure to showcase it with incredible plays during the 2024 postseason.

But Gimenez’s reputation on defense shouldn’t end there. He won the 2023 Platinum Glove and should fight to win it again this season.

Steven Kwan’s third season in the big leagues ends the same way as the first two: adding a Gold Glove award to his impressive resume.

When Kwan entered the league in 2022, he made a name for himself with his incredible palate and elite defense on the outfield. That led to him winning the Gold Glove in left field in 2022 and 2023, and now he’s won again in 2024.

Kwan had some trouble this season, missing time due to separate injuries at the beginning and end of the season. During this time he also began to struggle at the plate. But Kwan never let that affect his play on the field.

Cleveland’s left fielder ranked in the 85th percentile in OAA, 99th percentile in arm strength and 84th percentile in fielding value. Kwan also ranked 6th in MLB with nine outfield assists.
