Sairusi Ceinaturaga Senilawalawa

The man accused of murdering a toddler in Nasinu, Cunningham, last month was not in court this morning because one of his guarantors bailed him out.

The Legal Aid lawyer representing Sairusi Ceinaturaga Senilawalawa explained what happened in court.

He remains in the Ceinaturaga detention center.

He is charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of action with intent to cause grievous harm.

Ceinaturaga allegedly hit the child with an aluminum tablespoon, then smashed the child’s head against the wall and then threw him on the bed.

It is also alleged that the suspect slapped the deceased child’s 3-year-old brother and bit his face.

Ceinaturaga also allegedly attacked his de facto partner, the mother of his two children.

Police had previously confirmed that medical authorities alerted Totogo police to the incident after the boy was pronounced dead at Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

The matter was referred to the police after the victim allegedly had visible injuries due to the attack.

Police also said the investigation revealed that the defendant also attacked the victim’s three-year-old brother, who was found in the home with visible injuries.

The issue will be discussed again on the 18th of this month.
